On a beautiful Chicago day following a beautiful Blackhawks win, we bring you the “Week that Was.” Featuring a ton of young talent and some groovy dance tracks, the tracks are perfect for some background work music or some riding around town music. Enjoy and let us know what you think! Australian band San Cisco kicks it off with “Awkward” and 16 year old soon-to-be-rap phenom Bishop Nehru follows with “Fickle Mind$.”
Yup, I’m still playing this song on repeat. Stuck in my head since the first clip at Coachella, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” released on the duos masterful Random Access Memories, has seen numerous covers and remixes since the day it officially dropped. My favorite song in quite some time, I figured it’s only right we pay some more appreciation to it. The track is still number 1 on the international Spotify charts and number 2 on the iTunes ones. Almost 2 months since the CDQ version came onto the interwebs, the best reproductions have had more than enough time to stand out. Top 5 covers and top 5 remixes after the jump. In case you forgot the original… here it is.
Here’s Asher going in on Missy’s classic. See him returning to the word wrapping, free flowing verses that got him love in the first place. The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2 is coming.
The latest drop from ScHoolboy Q’s upcoming Oxymoron features a verse from Kendrick Lamar, which he starts off by rapping in spanish. You read it right, better than your favorite rapper en español! The hook is great on this one and features a groovy Q ripping through 2 verses, setting the stage for what could be the release of the year. Check out “Collared Greens” below!
Great Sir Yeezus, you may have yourself some competition come June 18th. Another absolute heater dropped from the upcoming album Born Sinner, featuring a B.I.G. tribute in the first verse. Take a listen below. Word is this was produced by Cole as well.
Vic Mensa drops the latest track from his upcoming Innanet Tape. Super dope song with a banging mellow beat that showcases Mensa’s soul crooning abilities. Ladies, remember to breathe.
They made a list about Chicago rappers and they skipped me
Needless to say that will never happen again. Enjoy the video below!
Video directed by Chicago crew Verluxe, featuring cameos by Chance the Rapper and much of the SaveMoney crew.
These tracks are for the people that hate a certain type of genre or for people that hate every single song regardless of what it is. The people that wish the Beatles were still around and take every opportunity to tell you so. These songs are enjoyable for everyone; watch as the foot discreetly starts tapping along to the beat and notice how hours later the stuck in the 70’s music fan is still humming the song they heard in your car.
This is a massive post. 2 parts. Mentally prepare yourself. We’ve picked out essential songs for every single situation you will find yourself in this summer. Guaranteed. Whether you’re: gearing up for a party, crusin’ down Lake Shore Drive, on the beach with friends, driving with people who only like The Beatles and hate everything else, rolling with the OG’s who miss 90’s music, hanging with the homies or trying to impress the ladies, itching for a chance to display your dance moves, or returning home alone after a great Chicago summer night, ACITM has got you covered. A comprehensive Spotify playlist is available at the bottom. Enjoy and feel free to add on!
The Classics
These are the songs you can get away with playing whenever, wherever during the summer season. Anyone can be at your party or in your car, and they will generally be ok with the tracks. The “I miss the golden era of music” people will even be satisfied.
Kendrick Lamar kicks off his new tour with fellow TDE Black Hippy members ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Ab Soul, tonight in Las Vegas at The Cosmopolitan and concludes on June 26th in Arizona, and unfortunately there is NO Chicago stop. At least we have Kendrick at Lolla.
BUT WAIT. There’s a remix in this promo video and UOENO it!
The promo video comes with a Black Hippy remix of U.O.E.N.O., featuring a Schoolboy reference to Rick Ross’s infamous “molly” line and Ab Soul taking “the game by storm just to X-Men out.” It’s not the Kendrick/Yeezus rumored track, but this just might be better. Full tour dates after the jump. Enjoy!
Today the summer loving, good-time-having music Gods blessed us with a new Edward Sharpe song from the bands upcoming self-titled album due July 23rd. Check out “Better Days” below.
