This is not a live album. This is an experiment in residency. Our friend Netherfriends returns to Chicago for the month of November to perform every Monday at Schubas. Each week, Shawn Rosenblatt, sole writer and performer of Netherfriends, will prepare 4 new songs to track and record (along with re-arranged classics) with plans to release the collection as a new album. During each performance, Shawn will have the audience contribute sounds he can then sample to help compose the songs (how cool is that? Show up to Schubas one of these nights and you’ll be included in an album).

The last Lupe Fiasco show I went to at the House of Blues started five and half hours later than it was supposed to, ended 20 minutes after it began, and left me pissed off for the next 48+ hours. My last Cool Kids show, on the other hand, was probably the best time I had at Lollapalooza- Chuck and Mikey performed on Perry’s stage for over 10,000 fans. On Sunday night, I went to the Cool Kids and Lupe Fiasco show at Assembly Hall. I wanted to see if Lupe could redeem himself after the “Fiasco-gate” at the House of Blues, and if the Cool Kids could bring the same energy and positive vibes they are known for to a smaller venue with a lot less people who knew their songs.

What a wonderful, exhausting, awesome 5 days. It was my first of I hope many Pygmalion Festivals, and I was treated to a great lineup, enthusiastic crowds, weird hipster dancing, and a photo pass (pictures are here if you don’t want to read show reviews). Texas’s own, Explosions in the Sky, headlined the first night, with the rest of the festival boasting acts such as Cut Copy, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, MiMOSA, and the Hood Internet among others.
