My favorite post to write every year, and this year is no different. Many may be complaining that this year’s Grant Park lineup doesn’t compare to other major music festivals around the world, but those people aren’t looking hard enough. Last year I suggested catching Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, as they were destined for stardom (and boy has it hit hard, with a sold-out world tour approaching and 3 tracks in the Billboard Top 100), and Givers, who were up there for my favorite performance of 2012. So same drill… you will not find The Killers, Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, or even Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper on this list. While I still highly recommend checking out all of those acts, here are the lesser known artists you can’t miss.

Week that Was (2-21-13 to 2-27-13)
More hip-hop than you usually see on the “Week that Was,” thanks to some strong features from Chance the Rapper, Action Bronson, and Kendrick Lamar. AlunaGeorge keeps cranking out awesome tracks, really setting themselves apart from the rest of the music world. I am dying to see that duo live. Make sure to check out more of Hundred Waters and Ghost Loft if you get some time, the remixes here don’t completely do the bands justice. Expect big things from them. Keep sending new music! We really appreciate it, and love hearing new things. Enjoy!

Songs from Abroad Vol. 1
As you may have noticed, posts on acityinthemidwest have recently slowed down. I’m studying abroad in Spain so posting as frequently as the last couple of months in 2012 is a bit difficult. Have no fear though, Songs from Abroad will be a giant foreign music post coming up on the site every once in a while, featuring only tracks I discover out here and not from a US based artist.
