Danny Brown – #HottestMC

Rhymes so real thought I wrote it in Janis Joplin’s vomit.

Taking a break from his upcoming release OLD, Danny Brown releases “Hottest MC,” a direct response to MTV’s annual “Hottest MC” Countdown. The list has been coming under fire, with even Kanye West chiming in about his #7 ranking. Regardless, some awesome lines in this, and an overall more aggressive, focused feel to the track. Expecting big things from Danny, the album should be one of the best of 2013. Enjoy!

The White Mandigos (Murs, Ego Trip, Sacha Jenkins) – The Ghetto Is Trying To Kill Me

West Coast veteran rhyme-slayer Murs, Bad Brains founding member Darryl Jenifer, and Ego Trip co-creator Sacha Jenkins SHR have teamed up to form The White Mandingos, announcing the release of their debut full length, The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me, on June 11th, 2013 through Fat Beats. The album is a hugely ambitious concept record told from the perspective of Tyrone White, a rock band frontman from Harlem’s Polo Grounds housing project. Jenifer and Jenkins production style is boundless, blurring the boundaries separating hip hop, hardcore punk, metal, and R&B, providing the album’s narrative with a vivid, enveloping sonic backdrop.

Week that Was (2-21-13 to 2-27-13)

More hip-hop than you usually see on the “Week that Was,” thanks to some strong features from Chance the Rapper, Action Bronson, and Kendrick Lamar. AlunaGeorge keeps cranking out awesome tracks, really setting themselves apart from the rest of the music world. I am dying to see that duo live. Make sure to check out more of Hundred Waters and Ghost Loft if you get some time, the remixes here don’t completely do the bands justice. Expect big things from them. Keep sending new music! We really appreciate it, and love hearing new things. Enjoy!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Sacrilege

New Yeah Yeah Yeahs… featuring a 20-person gospel choir. The first single from the bands upcoming album Mosquito, “Sacrilege” sounds great, mixing in the classic feel of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” with a touch of Karen O’s love crossed whispers. When asked about the new album, Karen said, “We would love for this music to make our fans feel something, for it to stir some shit up inside of them, whatever that may be… So much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off.” Well, do you feel something?

Frank Ocean – Eyes Like Sky [Download]

This track is reportedly one that didn’t make Channel Orange, so nothing completely new. Great track regardless, with the guitar driven background setting the moon as Frank swoons over a higher power watching over him. Check it out below and let us know what you think.

SaveMoney – Seppuku [Download]

“Seppuku” dropped right after “Acid Rain” last night, and it was quite a follow up. Produced by Nez & Rio, the track features SaveMoney’s finest, Chance the Rapper, Kami de Chukwu, Vic Mensa, Tokyo Shawn, and Caleb James. We’ve featured the groups work before (constantly actually) and they all seem to be getting better with time. Jump on the SaveMoney bandwagon ASAP, it’s getting pretty packed on here. Kami and Chance seem to pair up seamlessly, would love to see a joint tape between the two. Enjoy!

Seppuku – (切腹, “stomach-cutting”) is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment.

Juicy J – One of Those Nights (feat. The Weeknd)

Never posted The Weeknd before, but really love him on the latest Juicy J song “One of Those Nights.” It is technically a Juicy J track, but XO really takes over from the start. Check it out below!

Phoenix – Entertainment

The first offering from their upcoming album Bankrupt!, Phoenix is back with the sparkly synths and catchy hooks that’ll have you singing along in an arena or summer music festival in no time. “Entertainment” is the first single since Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix released in 2009, and I think it was worth the wait. This album should be a good one. Enjoy!
