Ringing in Lollapalooza Weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel

Acityinthemidwest had the golden ticket to two of the hottest Lollapalooza parties this past weekend: the Ck One Color Music Lounge and the It’s So Miami Oasis at the Hard Rock Hotel. DJ sets, complimentary cocktails, a tattoo bar and performances by up and coming artists rounded out the VIP experience.

Filligar @ Subterranean January 13th (with interview/video!)

It’s Monday- you know what that means? Time to solidify your weekend plans to have something to look forward to while you tackle your work/school week. Our top pick of the weekend is the Filligar show with openers Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes and Save the Clocktower at the Subterranean Friday night (January 13th). Filligar’s sound can be classified as rock with a touch of Folk. Their shows are a true art, sending energy through the crowd with rousing vocals and melodies guaranteed to be trapped in your head for weeks to come. You can buy tickets here!

The guys may all be in their early 20s but they are veterans to the music scene. They have already written and recorded eight albums and have made an incredibly favorable impression on their fans thanks to the music they create and the down to earth attitude they live by (Filligar is one of Michael’s favorite bands for this reason).

Filligar at Wicker Park Fest

This past Sunday I got to catch one of my favorite groups perform at Wicker Park Fest. The Chicago band that can be classified as anything from indie to rock, Filligar, graced the Center Stage of the festival. Singer Johnny Mathias, doing his best Tyler The Creator impression by performing with a broken foot, wowed the crowd with energizing vocals while brothers Pete (drums) and Teddy (bass), and longtime friend Casey Gibson accompanied with dizzying melodies that made you feel weird if you didn’t find yourself humming along or tapping your foot. I’ve followed this band for quite some time now, really noticing the progression they have made musically…now playing a more traditional kind of rock, which has led to sell outs all across the nation.

Check out my pictures from the bands performance and listen to all of their CD after the jump. Continue reading
