I caught up with Dexter and Megan from Houses at SXSW last month after their performance at the Mohawk. The band’s second album “A Quiet Darkness” has been released today and is worth a listen. You can purchase the album here. Read on to learn about the inspiration for the album, the band’s most awkward comparison as well as their favorite spot in Chicago.

The long awaited Traphouse Rock has finally dropped. Featuring production from Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the album has 15 tracks highlighting the different talents of the group, lead vocalist/guitarist Liam Cunningham, emcee Vic Mensa, vocalist Macie Stewart, bassist Lane Beckstrom, drummer Greg Landfair, trumpet player Nico Segal, and trombone player J.P. Floyd. Chance the Rapper gets the sole guest verse. Make sure to give the band some love and download the album!
Another track off the sure to be classic, Traphouse Rock. Name another band currently killin it like Kids These Days… not even 20, touring all over the US after shutting down Conan, with incomparable-to-anyone music. It can’t be done. If Derrick Rose is Chicago’s Bull, Kids These Days are slowly growing into Chicago’s band. Check it out!
A real “Week that Was” for the first time in nearly a month. Keep the music flowing in, we’re loving the stuff we’ve been getting. Enjoy this horrid humidity with some new music from some of the best artists currently doing it.
Noosa – Sail
When you have someone that flew in from Hawaii just to see a band standing to your left, and someone visiting from San Francisco there for the same reason to your right, you know you’re in for something special. That was the case Saturday at the sold out Lincoln Hall, where the Temper Trap was in town for the second straight night.
In town this Thursday is Brooklyn’s very own A Great Big Pile of Leaves. Fresh off playing 8 shows in 4 days at South by Southwest, the New York indie-rock band stops by Schubas Tavern with friends Mansions and Young Statues. With tickets only $8 in advance and $10 at the door, make sure to stop by at 9 for a night filled with great tunes from an up and coming band.
You know the deal…except this time I have a little more variety for you to choose from. Busy week for music, let me know if I missed anything! The starred songs were my favorite from the week that was. Enjoy!
*Santigold – Disparate Youth
Not much needs to be said about this weeks video of the week. Embodies every part of what we look for in this weekly segment. Make sure you check it out.
Kids These Days – Clear Eyes
Directed and shot by Austin Vesely of Elephilms. Take a look at their Vimeo page, a lot of good stuff.
