This is a must listen. Ratking is a 3 piece group from New York, led by 18 year old Wiki and Sporting Life. Check out the group wandering the streets of NYC, joined by fellow XL artist (and acityinthemidwest favorite) King Krule, in the brand new video for “So Sick Stories.” Word is Young Guru was helping finish up the album, so add that to your 2014 most anticipated list.
This should probably be called the year that was, but to help with tagging, we’re sticking with “Week.” Away for some time, but getting back on track, expect more and more ACITM music coverage as I finish my studies and head back to what has become the mecca of music, Chicago. We’ve got an old favorite in The Ataris coming to town Friday night, with an Orwells homecoming in April.
Without further ado, let’s get to the music. Starting us off are Sunny Gicz and Gabe Niles, aka Sunny & Gabe, a Virginia duo that varies from a hazy overcast to a strong trip hop pounding bass. They’ve got a mixtape called “Free Candy” that’s available for download now. Expect new music soon from these two.
From the dudes that brought you “Hands on the Wheel,” “Brand New Guy,” and an epic Noisey back and forth, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky are together again for a bonus track off Q’s Oxymoron. “Californication” lives up to the hype, and proves that these two together are a treat every time. Stay tuned for a full review of Oxymoron in the upcoming week.
What better way to say I love you (or I like you) this Valentine’s day than with another round of ACITM Valentines. Send your boo one of the cards below, because we all know Kanye West can express his feelings better than we can ourselves.
The long awaited track is here. Chance x Biebz. AND it’s actually pretty smooth. Make that real smooth. Chance jumps on the verse towards the end of the song and destroys the track… guess we finally know where that “ooo-woooo” mating like call came from during Chance’s Chicago show last week. Stream it below! Let us know what you think!
This new Tokyo Shawn/Joey Purp song is hot. Caleb James snapped on the beat. Check out the video for “World Turning” below, directed by Verluxe. Let us know what you think. Shawn’s Wave Theory coming soon.
More visuals on this wonderful Monday morning! Joey B dropped the “Hilary Swank” video, showing a young 14 year old Joey in a cypher, a current Joey rockin a sold out show, and interestingly enough, the Kendrick Lamar Hot 97 interview. Make sure you stick around until the end too, there’s a nice tribute to the late Pro Era member, Capital Steez. Enjoy!
We officially have the visuals for the Chance the Rapper remix of James Blake’s hit, “Life Round Here.” The video features the two driving around in a drop top on a rainy day in the forest. Great song, and it’s absolutely awesome that these two are friends. Hopefully more music on the way.
The surprising headliner for this years Pygmalion has been all over the globe in the past year. Undoubtedly one of the biggest electronic acts in the world right now, Major Lazer, made up of Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, came to Champaign’s Pygmalion Festival on the heels of the twerking craze, something the trio are considered kings of. The day before, Diplo and Walshy were in Panama, Jillionaire in New York. Hit the jump for a photo gallery and a short write up. Let us know if you got on stage!
My fourth and final Pygmalion as a student is officially over and what a way to go out. The Krannert Center opened the festivities, with one of the UK’s most talked about groups, Daughter, kicking it off. They were joined by Head and the Heart, the Pacific-Northwest folk-rockers touring in support of their upcoming release Let’s Be Still. Check out pictures and reviews below. Stay tuned for the annual Pyggy Crown tomorrow!
