PF Flyers at Sir & Madame

Sir & Madame debuted PF Flyers new collection at their Hyde Park store Friday and kicked off the weekend in style. DJ Jay Illa spun some Kanye West and Heineken had beer on hand while attendees mingled with Stack Aly and Ouigi of the Brooklyn Circus. We were there as well, always supporting our favorite Chicago power couple – Autumn and Brian Merritt. Check out photos from the event below, Ouigi Theodore talking about PF Flyers, and shop Sir & Madame here.

SZA – Childs Play feat. Chance the Rapper

Another Chance post… but this time the song is courtesy of the first lady of TDE, SZA. Any time you do anything over XXYYXX’s “About You,” it’s probably going to sound good, but with SZA and Chano teaming up, the song is exceptional. SZA’s voice gives a hypnotizing vibe to the hazy sample, check it out below. Not the first time we have a SaveMoney rapper dropping a verse to the Canadian producer’s hit, Kami de Chukwu did so last year. SZA’s EP is due soon, and she’s on the packed Pitchfork as well.

Chance the Rapper – Home Studio (Back Up In This Bitch)

Chance has a home studio now and a production crew called Social Experiment. So obviously his latest song is called “Home Studio (Back Up in this Bitch)”.  Nate Fox and Nico Segal  produced, the track features Chano reflecting on some of his successes over the past year, how he’s got the labels telling him he’s not playing fair. The beat is funky, so get your dancing shoes out. Enjoy! Solo Chano is back up in this bitch, AND he’s got that Young Thug flow on too!

RATKING – So Sick Stories (feat. King Krule)

This is a must listen. Ratking is a 3 piece group from New York, led by 18 year old Wiki and Sporting Life. Check out the group wandering the streets of NYC, joined by fellow XL artist (and acityinthemidwest favorite) King Krule, in the brand new video for “So Sick Stories.” Word is Young Guru was helping finish up the album, so add that to your 2014 most anticipated list.

Week that Was (4-16-14)

This should probably be called the year that was, but to help with tagging, we’re sticking with “Week.” Away for some time, but getting back on track, expect more and more ACITM music coverage as I finish my studies and head back to what has become the mecca of music, Chicago. We’ve got an old favorite in The Ataris coming to town Friday night, with an Orwells homecoming in April.

Without further ado, let’s get to the music. Starting us off are Sunny Gicz and Gabe Niles, aka Sunny & Gabe, a Virginia duo that varies from a hazy overcast to a strong trip hop pounding bass. They’ve got a mixtape called “Free Candy” that’s available for download now. Expect new music soon from these two.

ACITM is SXSW Bound

ACITM is heading to SXSW tomorrow, and if it’s anything like last year’s festival, it will be amazing. Kendrick Lamar, Banks, Little Hurricane and Phantogram are my personal can’t miss artists this year. Check out a recap from last year’s SXSW conference below!
