ACITM Summer Music Essentials (Pt. 2/2)

Here’s part 2 of the Summer Music Essentials. Enjoy!

If you missed part 1, click here.

Songs Everyone Loves

These tracks are for the people that hate a certain type of genre or for people that hate every single song regardless of what it is. The people that wish the Beatles were still around and take every opportunity to tell you so. These songs are enjoyable for everyone; watch as the foot discreetly starts tapping along to the beat and notice how hours later the stuck in the 70’s music fan is still humming the song they heard in your car.

F. Stokes – My Simple (My Small Town in the USA)

The first time I heard this song I was still singing it weeks later. It’s a great introduction to the lesser known F.Stokes, showcasing his flow change up scaling the beat up and down. It’ll be a great one to play with the windows rolled down as well.

Phoenix – 1901

Sublime – Doin’ Time (Summertime)

Chiddy Bang – Mind Your Manners (feat. Icona Pop)

A nice collab with Icona Pop, a year before the duo came onto the scene with their own hit, “I Love It.” Although Chiddy and Xaphoon Jones recently announced their split, the song is still perfect for the summer.

Welcome to my HOUSE PARTY

What many were probably waiting for, the bangers designed for whenever you gain the courage to throw a Project X style party. Guaranteed to get the grindin’ going and the bubbly flowin’.

J-Kwon – Tipsy

GIVE IT BACK NOW YOU DON’T GET NONE!!!! The ultimate summer party song. Remember, “Teen Drinkin, is very bad!”

Nelly – Hot in Herre

Nelly’s back, as promised. Even if you live in a place that never really gets hot (I’m looking at you Canada), crank the heat, invite a ton of people, throw on a bandaid on your face and get it poppin.

G.O.O.D. Music – Mercy

Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix)

Arguably the best sequence of the movie, if your goal is to replicate the absolute madness seen, PLAY THIS. I have yet to meet someone that did not enjoy it.

Ludacris – Money Maker (feat. Pharrell)

Chingy – Holidae Inn (feat. Ludacris & Snoop Dogg)

A classic from our generation, and a song that will forever be the first thing you think of when you see the American hotel chain. People still love this song, promise.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

Very similar to the “Pursuit of Happiness” Aoki remix, it is hard to find someone that does not like this song. It’s sure to get the party going to new levels.

Lake Shore Drive Cruisin’

These are the tracks where you roll your windows down all the way on a hot summer day, crank the stereo, head to downtown Chicago and hop on Lake Shore Drive. If your life were a movie, these are tracks that would be playing. We’ve dreamed a bit in part 1 with the “Me and the Homies” playlist, but this is for everyone. Your life’s a movie. Here’s the soundtrack.

CHVRCHES – Recover

My favorite band for quite some time now, they make anthems. Damn catchy anthems. Expect to see a lot more of these guys soon.

Jay-Z – Heart of the City

The Naked & Famous – Young Blood

M.I.A. – Paper Planes

Will this song every get old? No. Don’t lie, you’ve done the “bang bang bang” thing when the chorus comes around at least once in your life.

Coolio – Gangsta’s Paradise (feat. L.V.)

You haven’t truly lived until you’ve blown your speakers out to Gangsta’s Paradise. No better place to do it than on LSD.

Empire of the Sun – Alive

The ultimate summer song. Think slideshow at the end of movies (but remember, you’re the star in this movie), recapping the awesome summer. This is the song that will be used. It’ll end with a quick cut showing you and all your friends jumping up and down screaming the words to this song, all smiling. ANNNNNNND SCENE!

Grooves to Groove To

These tracks are to help you get funky. Doesn’t matter where you are. The weather is nice, you need to dance. Also, I had to find a section to include the best Daft Punk song ever in.

Sebastian – Embody

I hope my kid is exactly like this. Exactly.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell)

THE song of the summer needed a place on the Essential Summer Tracks list, so I made the “Groove’s to groove to” section. If you’ve followed me on twitter for the past month, you know how I feel about this song. It is perfect, top to bottom.

Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand

Late Night Driving Home

The finale to our Essential Summer tracks features songs you drive home to after another fantastic summer night. The weather is nice, actually enjoyable, you’ve got the windows rolled down, and you’re just enjoying life in the big city, reminiscing events that happened in the past couple of hours.

College & Electric Youth – A Real Hero

Inspired by the Motion Picture “Drive,” College and Electric Youth start your driving home soundtrack. Remember, driving with one hand on the steering wheel and admiring the view is required. *ACITM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURIES*

Daft Punk – Doin’ It Right

You could probably include much of Random Access Memories on this list, but we’ll give some love to other artists. This is the only song Diplo actually liked on the new album, surprisingly.

Theophilus London – Why Even Try (RAC Remix)

Kavinsky – Nightcall (feat. Lovefoxxx)

The perfect song to close a night out. Listen enough, and you’ll become as cool as the guy above.
