Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Film will be in theaters Christmas Day. “100 Black Coffins” features production by the film’s star, Jamie Foxx. Rozay always sounds awesome over these eery, slower paced beats. Check it out. Film trailer after the jump. Continue reading →
If you’ve noticed more tracks featured on the week that was, one, you’re welcome, and two, it’s because more and more music is pouring in through our email. This week we have 12 fresh tracks, with 3 headlining artists on top of it. Brooklyn based Railbird leads us off, with a psych pop experimental sound that’s gotten them on tour with Reptar and Rubblebucket. Cash Cash is next, and the wait for a track as fun to dance to as Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” may finally be here. If “Overtime” doesn’t at least get your foot tapping or shoulder popping, let me know and I’ll send you a sticker. Rounding out the Week that Was headliners is another Brooklyn band, Great Caeser. Often referred to as “the OutKast of Brooklyn Indie Rock,” you better expect great things. Enjoy! Keep sending music to acityinthemidwest [@] gmail.com.
I made a quick trip to Paris last weekend for two days of adventuring through the amazingly beautiful city. Exploring the “Chloé. Attitudes” exhibit at Le Palais de Tokyo was one of the highlights of my trip.
The exhibit, a collection of photos, garments and sketches of designs, illustrates the spirit of the Chloé brand on its 60th anniversary. The collection features pieces from Chloé’s nine essential designers, and visitors are invited to tour a still runway show of mannequins dressed in Chloé garments lining the walls of the Parisian contemporary art museum.
First of many new expected drops from Alex Wiley, as he gets ready to release his solo debut, #ClubWiley. Expect it in early 2013. Big fan of Wiley, he came out during the Chance the Rapper show at the Metro wearing a Santa Hat and a chain that said “Ho Ho Ho.” Swag. Check out the video below, track produced by Stefan Ponce.
Here’s the lost Jay-Z verse that was supposed to make Meek Mill’s Dreams and Nightmares album. Proving that he is, in fact, human though, Jay never gave the green light to release his verse due to his own unhappiness with what he recorded.
Loso gives fans a Thanksgiving Day treat, and released The Soul Tape 2. The first one was great, and so far I’m really feelin’ this one. Features guest appearances from Pusha T, J. Cole, Wale, Trey Songz, Joe Budden and Cassie. Download and tracklist below, let us know what you think!
Friday, December 7th, turntable mastermind and electronic music pioneer DJ Shadow hits MAYHEM at the MID! Resident DJ Zebo warms up the room along with DJ Intel and Moppy. Don’t miss a legend making a stop in Chicago!
Another big week for the “Week that Was.” We received a ton of submissions this week and posted a good amount of the tracks, so make sure to keep sending! The playlist works for everyone… whether you’re in the partyin’ mood or the chillin’ mood. Let us know what you think!
