Still looking for Halloween costume? Let the music inspire you. Check out our picks for the best artists to mimic this year.
1. Kanye West
Kanye West: the guy who made the leather “man skirt” fashionable. If you’re a guy who’s been itching to wear a skirt, this costume is for you. Leather is a huge trend right now, so finding any of the costume pieces below will not be hard. Get an original Watch The Throne t-shirt for $1000, a fake WTT t-shirt for $100 or a black Old Navy t-shirt for $10- your call depending on how badly you want to be Kanye this Halloween.
Skirt: Nordstrom; pants: PacSun; shirt: Ebay
2. Nicki Minaj
Ah Nicki Minaj. She’s had so many outrageous outfits this past year, it was hard to choose one look for Halloween. Hey, why not put an ice cream cone on around your neck and grab some inflatable pool toys to hold? The more ridiculous the accessories, the better.
Wig: Halloween Express; dress: Party City; slippers: Target Continue reading
DJs Skrillex, Afrojack, Carl Cox, Benny Bennassi and many others made their way to Soldier Field this past weekend for the 1st entirely electronic music festival in the city- Spring Awakening. I watched firsthand as Lollapalooza’s Perry stage has expanded from a small corner stage to a huge canopy-covered house music experience over the past few years, and there is no question in my mind that electronic music has become increasingly mainstream. Spring Awakening may have been the organizer’s response to the growing house music fad, yet still something was missing at the first of its kind music festival last weekend.
The big weekend is inching closer and closer… and we have more news for you! If you find a time conflict and have to miss one of your favorite artists, you can always catch them at an after party! Check out all the information below, with links to buy tickets. Official after parties are reserved for festival ticket holders for a limited time, so make sure you purchase your festival tickets here!
45 more days until Spring Awakening! Chicago’s festival scene will officially kick off in high gear June 16th, with Skrillex headlining Saturday night, and continue June 17th, with Afrojack closing it down. There are only a limited number of discounted two-day passes still available, so make sure to get your tickets here ASAP!
Electronic music legends Benny Benassi, Afrojack, Wolfgang Gartner and the much loved/hated Skrillex will make their way to Chicago for a weekend of dance music on June 16th for The Spring Awakening Music Festival. The festival, taking place at the massive Soldier Field, will also feature Diplo and A-Trak- two dj’s that I especially can’t wait to see. Check back for a full preview of artists in a few weeks. In the meantime, be sure to get your tickets here.

After Mudapalooza wrapped up late Sunday night with the Foo Fighters delivering a magical performance of “Everlong,” thoughts turned to something far more important than a live show. Musicians make music for the hope of one day earning a medal of their own. Fans wish they did something outrageous enough to earn them a spot amongst the stars. What we’re talking about folks, is a Lollie.
The Lollies are a special award show… something that only comes once a year, and delivers winners with satisfaction that they finally “made” it in the world. Now who can earn a Lollie? Anyone within festival grounds (primarily bands, but if a fan were to truly deserve one, Lollie voters keep track of everything). Who are the Lollie voters? Me, and only me. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were victorious in ’06, winning the Lollie for Most Energetic Performance. The Killers, winners in ’09 for Most Surprising Performance, were shocked to receive such a high honor. And who could forget Albert Klimek, taking home the Biggest Trooper Lollie last year for charging the fence and breaking his arm. Without further ado, here are the 2011 champions.
Check out the winners after the jump! Continue reading
