I caught up with Dexter and Megan from Houses at SXSW last month after their performance at the Mohawk. The band’s second album “A Quiet Darkness” has been released today and is worth a listen. You can purchase the album here. Read on to learn about the inspiration for the album, the band’s most awkward comparison as well as their favorite spot in Chicago.

Where You Should Be Tonight: Celebrating Our Beloved Chicago Flag with Next Star Vodka at Square One

Chicago-based Next Star Vodka is bringing back an old, forgotten holiday honoring the Municipal Flag of Chicago. Today is the anniversary of the day our Chicago flag was accepted by the city council, and to celebrate, Next Star Vodka is partnering with South Loop neighborhood bar Square One to host an event with tastings, $4 you-call-it Next Star Vodka cocktails and the unveiling of “The Wallace Rice”- a delicious, refreshing, spring cocktail honoring the creator of the Flag of Chicago. Acityinthemidwest is all for celebrating the best city in the whole wide, wide world, and we think there’s no better way to do it than with the local, craft vodka Next Star. Check out how cool the Next Star bottle is too.

Lupe Fiasco – Light Blue [Download]

Lupe took to twitter to release “Light Blue,” a track made just for practice, like a gymnast or piano player would do, said Fiasco. Forget about all the controversy surrounding the Chicago MC and we see he’s a damn good rapper. Stream and download the track below.

Ra Ra Riot @ The Metro

New Yorkers Ra Ra Riot visited the Windy City last night to play a classic indie pop show that showed off songs from their most recent album Beta Love. Accompanied by the upbeat tones of Rebecca Zeller’s violin, the band’s electropop melodies had the Metro dancing. The best moment of the night came when vocalist Wes Miles hugged an audience member after unsuccessfully crowdsurfing onto her. Check out photos from the show below.

SaveMoney – Seppuku [Download]

“Seppuku” dropped right after “Acid Rain” last night, and it was quite a follow up. Produced by Nez & Rio, the track features SaveMoney’s finest, Chance the Rapper, Kami de Chukwu, Vic Mensa, Tokyo Shawn, and Caleb James. We’ve featured the groups work before (constantly actually) and they all seem to be getting better with time. Jump on the SaveMoney bandwagon ASAP, it’s getting pretty packed on here. Kami and Chance seem to pair up seamlessly, would love to see a joint tape between the two. Enjoy!

Seppuku - (切腹, “stomach-cutting”) is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment.
