Week that Was (2-28-13 to 3-6-13)

I love posting a “Week that Was” with bands and rappers that I’ve never blogged about before. A great mix of music from all over the world. Make sure to keep sending us music and let us know what you think! If you’re feelin’ down, start with Jahan Lennon. If you’re feelin’ stressed, play the Generationals. If you’re trying to party, go straight to Kill Paris. Music for everyone. Enjoy!

Week that Was (2-21-13 to 2-27-13)

More hip-hop than you usually see on the “Week that Was,” thanks to some strong features from Chance the Rapper, Action Bronson, and Kendrick Lamar. AlunaGeorge keeps cranking out awesome tracks, really setting themselves apart from the rest of the music world. I am dying to see that duo live. Make sure to check out more of Hundred Waters and Ghost Loft if you get some time, the remixes here don’t completely do the bands justice. Expect big things from them. Keep sending new music! We really appreciate it, and love hearing new things. Enjoy!

Week that Was (2-7-13 to 2-13-13)

Hope everyone had a great week, we’ve really been doing our best trying to keep everyone updated on the important music news over the week. For this week’s “Week that Was” we lead off with Lorde, who in her Facebook About Me describes herself as our “favorite little head game.” Perfect. Her music draws you in and keeps you smiling and bobbing your head until the end. Later on we have 2 bands from Chicago, Young Man and Houses, and fellow midwest-ers The ACBs, from Kansas City, Missouri. Enjoy and let us know what stands out! Keep sending music to acityinthemidwest@gmail.com.

Week that Was (2-6-13)

The Week that Was has been MIA for a couple of months, showing its head every once in a while. We’ve let our readers down. That’s why today marks the return… I’ve caught up on all the emails in the acityinthemidwest@gmail.com account (which you can submit music to at any time) and bring you a mega Week that Was. Think of it as a February gift. We’re back for good now. 20 tracks you need to check out. If you’d like any more information/would like to hear more of any of the artists featured, let us know and we’ll make it happen. Music is alive. Enjoy, tell your friends, and let us know what you think.

Week that Was (1-9-13 to 1-16-13)

Michael’s in Spain on Study Abroad and doesn’t have Internet in his apartment yet (boo hoo, I know). My first addition of Week That Was features a mix of music from some of our favorite artists including Youth Lagoon and Cold War Kids, as well as tracks submitted to us from up-and-comers Victories at Sea and GirlsOnDrugs. As always, keep sending us your music for a chance to be featured!

Week that Was (11-22-12 to 11-28-12)

If you’ve noticed more tracks featured on the week that was, one, you’re welcome, and two, it’s because more and more music is pouring in through our email. This week we have 12 fresh tracks, with 3 headlining artists on top of it. Brooklyn based Railbird leads us off, with a psych pop experimental sound that’s gotten them on tour with Reptar and Rubblebucket. Cash Cash is next, and the wait for a track as fun to dance to as Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” may finally be here. If “Overtime” doesn’t at least get your foot tapping or shoulder popping, let me know and I’ll send you a sticker. Rounding out the Week that Was headliners is another Brooklyn band, Great Caeser. Often referred to as “the OutKast of Brooklyn Indie Rock,” you better expect great things. Enjoy! Keep sending music to acityinthemidwest [@] gmail.com.

Week that Was (11-1-12 to 11-14-12)

We missed last week but we’re back with a bang, featuring double the amount of songs we’d normally give you. You have a lot of listening to do, so stop reading and get to it! I couldn’t decide who to make the overall feature artist, so Autre Ne Veut, Veronica Falls, and Cities Aviv get the joint honors. Enjoy!

Week that Was (10-18-12 to 10-24-12)

Time for some new music. This week’s “Week that Was” features a lot of stuff I love, especially the Bago and Steffaloo tracks. Steffaloo’s album “Would You Stay” dropped earlier this week, and you can download the Bago mixtape right here. As far as the Mistah F.A.B. song, the 3rd verse is left open on purpose, with F.A.B. encouraging fans to record their own remixes. If you choose to do that, we’d love to hear them! Enjoy the rest, and let us know what we missed! Don’t forget to enter our contest for free Daughter/Choir of Young Believers tickets right here!
