Where You Should Be Tonight: Celebrating Our Beloved Chicago Flag with Next Star Vodka at Square One

Chicago-based Next Star Vodka is bringing back an old, forgotten holiday honoring the Municipal Flag of Chicago. Today is the anniversary of the day our Chicago flag was accepted by the city council, and to celebrate, Next Star Vodka is partnering with South Loop neighborhood bar Square One to host an event with tastings, $4 you-call-it Next Star Vodka cocktails and the unveiling of “The Wallace Rice”- a delicious, refreshing, spring cocktail honoring the creator of the Flag of Chicago. Acityinthemidwest is all for celebrating the best city in the whole wide, wide world, and we think there’s no better way to do it than with the local, craft vodka Next Star. Check out how cool the Next Star bottle is too.

Fool’s Gold Rap Party at the Red Bull Guesthouse in Miami

The sun was blazing, models were dancing and Red Bull was flowing at the exclusive Fool’s Gold Rap party last Saturday at the Red Bull Guest House in Miami featuring A-Trak. The event was absolutely the highlight of my Miami vacation, and one week later I’m still reminiscing and wishing I could go back. A-Trak spun gold per usual and introduced special guest Alchemist who also played an awesome set. I learned two very important lessons at the amazing rooftop pool party: 1. don’t keep your cellphone in your pocket because there is a 90% chance you will be thrown into the pool and 2. four Red Bulls in the span of two hours may be too many. I suggest you change into your bathing suit, turn on your heat lamp and turn up the mix below, pretending you’re in Miami at the #rbguesthouse tonight.

Twitter reviews the 2013 Grammy Awards

Music’s Super Bowl was last night, and the stars were out in full force. Thanks to a zero-tolerance policy for lip-syncing, all performances were required to be live, helping us decide who really has it. We took to Twitter to review this years Grammy awards. Take a look below, and let us know your thoughts from last night!

Katy Perry says “What Memo?” Ellen Degeneres says “Damnnnnnnnnn!”

“In A Perfect World” – New Exhibit at Gallery F

“In a Perfect World,” the new exhibit at Gallery F in Logan Square features cool, unique works of art in mixed mediums by NiceOne and LUCX. The work on Gallery F’s walls may look familiar to you- NiceOne and LUCX are street artists, and their pieces can be found throughout Chicago on the walls of abandoned buildings and plastered within Wicker Park alleys. Chicago is making its way into the art scene as new galleries and events such as 2nd Fridays in Pilsen make art more accessible and readily available. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here’s my top pick for you. Check out photos and the inspiration behind the work after the jump!

The Numbered Days Loft Party @ Stan Mansion 1/26

Santa has come and gone, you got your midnight kiss, and now you’re left to face the painful reality of winter: cold walks to work, sweaty El rides, coat checks, lost mittens, empty bars, and too many trips to your local Redbox. Fortunately for Chicagoans, there’s this new outfit called The Numbered Days, where your pain is their inspiration. To ease the post-holiday humdrums and give you a night to remember, the young but experienced party hosts are throwing their second annual Loft Party on January 26 at Stan Mansion in Logan Square.

A Quick Trip to Paris – “Absences…” Le Salon (Atelier Galerie)

I took a quick trip to Paris this past weekend and stumbled upon Le Salon (Atelier Galerie). Located next door to Ed Banger Records (the labels of Justice and SebAstian, among others), Le Salon (Atelier Galerie) is the studio/gallery of Thomas Winter, brother of Pedro Winter/Busy P- French dj, producer, Ed Banger Records owner and former Daft Punk manager. An instagram photo posted by Ed Banger Records promoting a new exhibit drew us into the Parisian studio. On display at the intimate gallery was MałgośKa’s photo exhibit entitled “Absences…” in collaboration with LISA SAYS. The work, with an air of eeriness, showcased photographs of objects in low light. I enjoyed the exhibit and was lucky to catch up with the talented young artist Malgoska during the opening night of her showing.

Pygmalion Music Festival: An Interview With Founder Seth Fein

Although writing about the final festival of the summer season brings me down a bit, just looking at the Pygmalion 2012 lineup makes it all better. Festival founder Seth Fein has jam packed the 3 day festival with the big name likes of Grizzly Bear, Dinosaur Jr, Dirty Projectors, Sleigh Bells, and Best Coast, along with local acts Common Loon, Elsinore, and Santah. 54 bands will make their way to the Champaign-Urbana area overall, and you can catch all of them for the price of $100. To buy a festival pass, click here.

The great man that brings all of this to the generally quiet (maybe not quiet anymore) college town is Seth Fein. The Smile Politely founder (Champaign-Urbana’s independent online magazine) and Nicodemus Agency owner is a very busy man, as the titles show. Luckily he answered a couple questions for ACITM, which should help you learn more about the festival and CU’s musical savior himself. Check it out after the jump!

Acityinthemidwest had the golden ticket to two of the hottest Lollapalooza parties this past weekend: the Ck One Color Music Lounge and the It’s So Miami Oasis at the Hard Rock Hotel.
