Milagres, the five guy band from Brooklyn, continues their US tour by making a stop in Chicago’s Schuba’s on Sunday. Their latest album Glowing Mouth released last September is an indie pop compilation with a hint of funk. Read on for how the album came together- it is a story worth telling.

I’ve been waiting for a chance to catch Sleeper Agent live since last July, and this weekend the dates will finally work out. I first discovered the band reading Spin Magazine, who featured them in their “Breaking Out” segment. The 6 piece band from Bowling Green originally came together after guitarist Tony Smith and drummer Justin Wilson found barista turned singer Alex Kandel performing at open mic’s. They’ll be in Chicago Saturday night in support of Ben Kweller, who recently released a new album titled Go Fly a Kite, at Lincoln Hall at 10 PM. Tickets are sold out, so check out Craigslist if you weren’t lucky enough to get one.
Over 100 heart-pounding performances from DJs of all continents, 165,000 ridiculous outfits (or a complete lack of outfits) on fans from all over the world and three days of the sweatiest, loudest fun at the legendary electronic music festival in Downtown Miami- Ultra Music Festival. I scored the golden ticket to the Bayfront Park fest this past weekend and made my way to “party in the city where the heat is on” (props to Will Smith for making that line famous). Read on for the best and the worst from the craziest music fest I’ve attended thus far.
A very busy weekend didn’t stop us from catching some of the best new songs featured in this weeks “Week that Was.” As always, let us know what we missed and hit us up if you’d like your song to be included!
Azealia Banks – Fuck Up the Fun
When you have someone that flew in from Hawaii just to see a band standing to your left, and someone visiting from San Francisco there for the same reason to your right, you know you’re in for something special. That was the case Saturday at the sold out Lincoln Hall, where the Temper Trap was in town for the second straight night.
Thursday night marked the start of a very busy weekend for ACITM. Maggie was catching the rays in Miami at Ultra Music Festival, and I began a stretch of 3 concerts in 3 days as well. A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Mansions, and Young Statues came to Chicago fresh off of a bunch of performances at SXSW, kicking off a mini tour through the midwest and northeast.
Dougy Mandagi, Jonathon Aherne, Toby Dundas, Lorenzo Sillitto and Joseph Greer, better know as The Temper Trap, arrive in Chicago’s Lincoln Hall this Saturday with a full head of steam. Fresh off of a handful of performances at SXSW, the band is currently on its US tour, which already features back to back sold out nights in Los Angeles earlier this week, and is set to perform 2 sold-out nights in Chicago this weekend and 3 sold-out nights in New York City next week. Make sure to check out “Need Your Love” from the bands upcoming album, streaming below.
